1. Start Opera.
Opera 8.x, 9.x: Select Tools, then Preferences. The Preferences window appears. Select the Advanced tab, the select Fonts. Click International fonts. The International fonts window appears.
Opera 7.x: Select Tools, then Preferences. The Preferences window appears. Select Fonts. Click International fonts. The International fonts window appears.

2. In the Writing system drop-down box scroll until you find Chinese Simplified and/or Chinese Tranditional. When you find the one you wish to set the fonts on, click on it to highlight it.
Note: If you don't see the particular language in the Language script drop-down box then you don't have that language installed on your computer. Refer to Inputting Chinese Characters in Documents, E-Mails, and Websites on Reading and Writing Chinese Characters with Your Computer.
3. The first entry under Normal font will be Automatic, followed by the name of the font Opera has chosen. If you wish to change select a different font. The second entry under Monospace font will also be Automatic, followed by the name of the font Opera has chosen. If you wish to change select a different font. You can set the fonts for multiple language scripts by repeating steps 2 and 3. When finished click OK to close the International fonts window. Click OK to close the Preferences window.
4. Select View, then Encoding.

5. Make sure Automatic selection is the default selection method (has a black dot next to it). If it is not the default, click on it and it will be made the default selection method (will have a black dot next to it).
