Installing and Configuring Language Files for the Input Method Editors (IMEs) in Windows 95, 98, ME, NT with Office XP

Note: If you do not have Office XP installed on your computer download go to Installing and Configuring Language Files for the Input Method Editors (IMEs) in Windows 95, 98, ME, NT without Office XP.

1. Go to Global IMEs for Office XP at Microsoft. On the web page, click on the hyperlink of the language you wish to download - Simplified Chinese IME, or Traditional Chinese IME.

2. You will be taken to the Microsoft Download Center. You can determine your download time by selecting your Internet connection speed in the Estimated Download Time box. If your Windows operating system was installed as English when your computer was set up, make sure the Change Language box is set to English. When finished with your choices click the Continue button.

3. You will be taken to another page in the Microsoft Download Center asking if you wish to validate your copy of Microsoft Office. Make your choices and click Continue. If you choose Yes, please validate Office and take me to the download, follow steps (4.a, 4.a.i, 4.a.ii, 5, 6). If you choose No, do not validate Office at this time, but take me to the download, follow steps (4.b, 4.b.i, 4.b.ii, 5, 6).

4.a. If you choose Yes, please validate Office and take me to the download, another page will appear with the yellow Internet Explorer Information Bar near the top of your web browser. Right click anywhere on the yellow bar.

4.a.i. The Install ActiveX Control box appears. Click on Install ActiveX Control.

4.a.ii. The Internet Explorer-Security Warning box appears. Click Install. The product installs itself on your computer. Skip down to step 5.

Note: Download boxes have different appearances depending upon the make and version number of your Web browser. Internet Explorer 5.0 file download boxes will appear differently than Internet Explorer 7.0 for example. And Internet Explorer download boxes will appear differently than Netscape or Firefox download boxes. Also Netscape and Firefox download boxes may have the option to Save only, but not to Run.

4.b. If you choose No, do not validate Office at this time, but take me to the download, you will be taken to the download page. You can determine your download time by selecting your Internet connection speed in the Estimated Download Time box. If your Windows operating system was installed as English when your computer was set up, make sure the Change Language box is set to English. When finished with your selections click Download.

4.b.i. The File Download-Security Warning box appears. Click Run. The file will download itself temporarily to your computer.

4.b.ii. The Internet Explorer-Security Warning box appears. Click Run. The Global IME installs and configures itself on your computer.

5. After the Global IME has finished installing and configuring itself you will be prompted to restart your computer. Click Yes.

6. After the computer has restarted you will see the Global IME icon in the taskbar.
